There is so much talk about being consistent and how to maintain that consistency but we don’t really talk about what happens when we aren’t consistent. You know, you start that perfect workout program and you feel like you will do it forever and then find yourself skipping days until you stop altogether? What happens next? I mean you didn’t hit your goals, so what do you do? That my friends is what we are diving into today. We’ve all experienced this before and sometimes starting up again is hard so I wanted to give you some easy tips on how to get back on track!
#01 Think About Why You Stopped In The First Place
This is probably the most important tip I can give you! You have to figure out what made you stop the last time. Was it the actual workouts? Did you struggle with time? Finding this out is so important so we can correct it this time around. I don’t want you going back in with the same issues you had the first time because let’s be honest, we know how it ended that time!
So sit down and really think about why you stopped. Be honest with yourself here because this could be what helps you stick with whatever it is this time around!
#02 Set Smaller Goals
I know I’ve talked about this before but stick with me because it’s that important that I need to talk about it again. When we have big goals they can seem far away and really hard to accomplish. I totally get that. I completely understand that feeling of wanting to lose weight or get back in shape but realize you have so much work to do. That feeling alone can make you want to just throw in the towel.
Instead of focusing on that big goal I want you to make and focus on smaller ones. Since we are talking about starting again with fitness picture this, instead of picturing yourself having to go through the entire program or working out every day forever, picture getting through this week. Make working out this week your goal. Once you accomplish that, make a new goal! Setting smaller goals makes them achievable faster which makes you motivated to keep going!
#03 Find An Accountability Partner
Going this alone is hard! There are days you are going to feel like quitting but when you have a positive person who can pick you back up from that feeling is so important! This can be a friend, your spouse, a person from Instagram that you’ve never met in person. You just need to surround yourself with people who have similar goals. This will help with positivity when you have all the negative thoughts of quitting!
Starting over can be so overwhelming and know you aren’t alone in feeling that way. I’ve been there a few times actually and whenever I try and get myself back into my normal routine I get that feeling. Let yourself have the feelings, talking about them, journal about them but don’t let them control your outcome! You got this!
Happy Saturday! I wanted to hop by and give you this important message for this weekend because I hear a lot of this going around!
Do not punish yourself with exercise. When you get into that mindset you will start resenting working out because you will associate it with something negative rather than all the positive it brings.
I totally get not wanting to lose your progress but it is not going to happen with one meal or in one day or really one weekend!
If you can relate to this I want you to do this...
Each morning when you get up be intentional about how you will show up that day. Will you do your workout? Will you focus on your nutrition? Will you go to the party and have one margarita and then seltzer? Pick your one way to show up and stick to it and let the rest happen. Remember this is for a day, not every single day. One day letting yourself eat outside your plan is going to be ok!
