How I Motivate Myself to Workout At Home

Finding motivation… A few weeks back I wrote a post about motivation being garbage. My thought on the subject hasn’t changed much but yet here I am writing a post about finding the motivation to workout from home.

See the thing with motivation is it isn’t always going to be there. It will for sure let you down. In fact the more I see people discuss the term “motivation” the more I look at the term as an excuse. “I really want to workout but ugh I just don’t have the motivation” or “I know what I need to do I just have to find the motivation to do it” Yea, sorry but those are excuses for not showing up.

Motivation will get you a few weeks in. Then you will realize what you are doing takes work and effort and at times is hard and that motivation will be gone and then you have to continue to show up so how can we do this…

Plan your workouts and put them into your calendar. No matter what calendar you use, plug in your workouts. Treat them as you would a doctor's appointment. You wouldn’t just flake on the appointment at the last minute right? Well, the same goes for your workout. When you put it in your planner you are being intentional about how and when you will show up. This gives you a better chance of it actually happening!

If you are new to working out don’t set expectations of, “I will workout an hour a night” You are setting yourself up to fail. Start smaller. Try a 20 minute workout. Once that has become part of your routine increase it to 30 minutes and continue to do so until you’ve reached your desired workout or timeframe.

Set your clothes out as a reminder. This can be done no matter when you plan on doing your workout. If it is in the morning you can set them out the night before, if you are working out after work bring your clothes with you and change before you leave. This is setting yourself up to be successful. The more excuses you can eliminate the more chances you have to do it.

Mel Robbins 5 Second Rule. If you haven’t read this book yet then by all means head over to your local bookstore and pick it up. This book will give you a fantastic tool for your toolbox. Whenever I catch myself not wanting to do something I just countdown from 5, in my head, and then move. My alarm goes off in the morning and I don’t want to get up, 5-4-3-2-1 I’m moving. It is such a simple strategy yet so effective!

I hope you don’t take all my motivation talk as negativity. I love reading motivational quotes, I mean I post them often myself! I just don’t want you to rely on motivation to get you to reach your goals. It just doesn’t work that way. There will come a time where you just don’t want to and it won’t matter what quote you read you will just blow it off. You need to become more disciplined by building habits!

Holiday Weekend Message | Coffee Donuts Fitness

Happy Saturday! I wanted to hop by and give you this important message for this weekend because I hear a lot of this going around!

Do not punish yourself with exercise. When you get into that mindset you will start resenting working out because you will associate it with something negative rather than all the positive it brings.

I totally get not wanting to lose your progress but it is not going to happen with one meal or in one day or really one weekend!

If you can relate to this I want you to do this...

Each morning when you get up be intentional about how you will show up that day. Will you do your workout? Will you focus on your nutrition? Will you go to the party and have one margarita and then seltzer? Pick your one way to show up and stick to it and let the rest happen. Remember this is for a day, not every single day. One day letting yourself eat outside your plan is going to be ok!

Most days you can find me running around because I am a busy mom of 2 boys! I am usually with my family or doing some kind of activity! We are a very active family!
