School Menu

I have to say this is something that really strikes a nerve with me. Our kids learn more while they are in school than just how to read and write. They are learning manners and habits. One of those habits includes food.

Nevermind the fact that there is no instruction on good nutrition happening they are being given food from our cafeterias that are absolutely horrible. Now before I continue I need to say this, if you work in a school cafeteria, this rant is not about you personally so I apologize for any hard feelings. This rant has to do with what our government accepts as acceptable for our children in regards to nutrition!

What I witness on a daily basis in a school with food is horrible. We load them up with garbage and carbs, throw labels of "whole grains" and try to pass it off as a balance and nutritious meal.

The other day students were given Cinnamon Toast Crunch, a container of milk, cookies with "vegetables" in them, a banana, and juice. The amount of added sugar given to these kids first thing in the morning almost exceeds the amount they should consume daily.

Then for lunch I see more horrible choices. I was actually told that the tomato sauce on pizza counts for their vegetable so pizza is a good option for them. I literally couldn't even get words out. I've already had a few people try and justify this to me also so I'm going to explain further on this one. Yes tomato sauce in its pure form could be counted as a vegetable. I want you to take a minute from reading this and go check out a can of tomato sauce. If you don't have one then the next time you are shopping head down that isle. Look and see how many options of tomato sauce there are, and how many of them include added sugar. I'm sorry but if you are adding sugar to your vegetables than it still isn't a good option! And I can pretty much guarantee they aren't making homemade sauce and pizza in each of the cafeterias!

Let's set aside the fact that them eating all of this isn't good for them on a daily basis because it affects their concentration and just stick with the fact that this is building a habit. They are being shown that sugar filled cereal is a healthy choice because it is made with "whole grain" Does eating the cereal with whole grain make it a better option than without whole grain? Yes but it doesn't make it a good option in general!

We need to be teaching our kids how to fuel their bodies properly. They need to know the importance of fruits and vegetables. They need to be given time to help prepare food and explore different tastes.

Our kids deserve better! Rant Over

Holiday Weekend Message | Coffee Donuts Fitness

Happy Saturday! I wanted to hop by and give you this important message for this weekend because I hear a lot of this going around!

Do not punish yourself with exercise. When you get into that mindset you will start resenting working out because you will associate it with something negative rather than all the positive it brings.

I totally get not wanting to lose your progress but it is not going to happen with one meal or in one day or really one weekend!

If you can relate to this I want you to do this...

Each morning when you get up be intentional about how you will show up that day. Will you do your workout? Will you focus on your nutrition? Will you go to the party and have one margarita and then seltzer? Pick your one way to show up and stick to it and let the rest happen. Remember this is for a day, not every single day. One day letting yourself eat outside your plan is going to be ok!

Have fun and make good memories, and please be safe! Uber is a fantastic ...
